Verify a Credential

Dentity makes it easy to verify credentials, with verification solutions to meet your organization’s needs.  To get started, click the “Verify” icon in your Dentity account.  You will see two options — verify a credential offline and verify a credential online.  Here’s a step-by-step guide to both solutions:

Offline Verifications

Choosing this option generates a verifier QR code and weblink.  The QR code can be scanned by a mobile device and, if the credential is present in the Holder’s wallet, they will be presented with a screen on their device that verifies the credential.

Online Verifications

Dentity uses Open ID Connect for Verifiable Presentations for its online verification solution.  Open ID Connect, or OIDC, is used by millions of websites as an authentication protocol.  Many websites use “Login with Facebook or Google” and other social logins to ease the sign on process for consumers, which is an OIDC process like the one used by Dentity.  You will need to click “Create App” and configure the following items:

App Name: This is not public, it’s only for your reference so you can keep track of your OIDC apps.  You can create an unlimited number of apps, each verifying different credentials and each taking users to different pages.

Template Name: This will allow you to choose from the credential templates to be verified by the app.  You can choose multiple credentials from the drop down.  Remember, before you verify any information, the Holder must give you access to the credential to be verified in their wallet.

Verifier Name: This is the name of the verifier, which will be shown to the Holder during the sign on process.

Privacy Policy Link:  This is the link to the privacy policy of the verifier.  It will be shown to the Holder in case they want to review it prior to sharing information.

Redirect Link: This is the link the Holder will be sent to after they login with or share their credential information.

Logout Link: This is the link the Holder will be sent to after they logout.

Logo: This is the logo that will appear on the credential verification page.  It should not exceed 250 x 250 pixels.

After you create your OIDC app, a Client ID and Client Secret will be generated.  Click “Actions” and you will see the configuration data required to set-up your OIDC client.

Testing your OIDC App

Now, let’s test it!  After you create your OIDC app, visit the link below and add the following details to the client configuration: Client ID, Client Secret, Redirect Link, and Logout link.  It will take you through the OIDC flow, using the credentials you configured for the app (Use Production Mode):

Once you are comfortable that your app has been configured correctly, you can now configure the Dentity OIDC client on your website.  Many verifiers use identity and access management providers like Okta and Auth0 to make this process easier.  For more information on adding Open ID Connect to your website, you can visit this link.
